For the experimentation, observe the position of the stems and leaves of a house plant over a period of a week while laying it on it’s side and leaning on a book. Plants contain a chemical called auxin causing it to elongate. Gravity pulls it downward, the cells elongate where there is auxin accumulated, therefore causes the stem to grow upward.

Processed food and the amount of gas

The purpose is to determine whether processed food tend to produce more gas. Obtain small pieces of different kinds of processed food and place each in a test tube. A a small amount of distilled white vinegar in each tube then shake for 30 seconds. Fit a balloon on the opening of the test tube. Leave it for eight hours then measure the width of the balloons after.

Level of pollution by day

This project aims to answer if there is a relationship of the time of day or week and the amount of air pollution. Use different microscope slides and coat it with petroleum jelly. Select different places where you can place your slides and label it. Expose all slides at the same time frame daily. Collect the slides after then view it under the microscope. Observe which slides accumulate most particles.

1. Provide a Basic Introduction and Background

If your child seems completely unsure about the situation, it might be best to start by simply getting a family plant. Keep it on the windowsill, and have him or her water it everyday, and note that it gets sunlight. This will provide them with at least a little background on the magic at hand. 2. Hypothesize and Test

After each water, have your child takes pictures and make notes about each pictures status.

After about two weeks, you can call your experiment complete! And these point, the four different sets of flowers should look very different, and provide your child with the kind of results needed to at least answer some of their questions. One of the last things that a student does when working on a science fair entry is to create their display board. While many students rely on a simple 2 dimensional piece of poster board for their display board, others go the extra mile by using a triboard for their display piece. A triboard is a great option as it is designed to stand up on its own and it offers three large panels that students can use to display information about their science experiment.

What Is a Triboard?

A triboard is basically a foam board that has been precut and reinforced so that it has two joints. The two joints segment the board into three panels. The two outer panels can be positioned so that the entire triboard stands up on a table or desk without external support. Triboards are sold in art supply, craft and office supply stores. They generally come in white and black, and occasionally they can be found in designer colors like blue or neon colors.

Panel #1 The Introduction to Your Project

The first panel of your triboard needs to be dedicated to introducing your science experiment. It will identify the hypothesis that you selected, the reason why this topic is important and it will explain how your experiment was set up. The graphic elements that this panel will contain will focus on the materials used in your experiment and the experiment set-up.

Panel #2 The Experiment

The second panel will focus on the experiment and the collection of data. This panel will have the most graphic elements. The graphics that it will need include charts, graphs and photographs. Each graphic element will need to be labeled. In addition to the graphic elements, text elements will also need to be posted on the middle panel. It will instead have bullet points that explain your results and that also explain how the data either supports or negates your hypothesis.
