Internet The Greatest Invention Of All Times

Internet The Greatest Invention Of All Times

Someone would quick to say that the invention of the railway or telephone was the greatest invention of all time. But without a doubt the invention that stands out would be the invention of the internet. The internet has converted the world into a small village. People from the remotest parts of the globe are now able to connect to the rest of the world, do trade and update themselves with what is happening in other parts of the world.

Indeed studies have established a correlation between the uptake of the internet and growth of trade. The introduction of the internet in schools has greatly contributed to better performance of students. The internet has positively and negatively influenced all facets of life hence attesting to the importance of this media of relaying information.

But while the internet is becoming one of the most efficient mode of communication, it posses certain risks to users especially the children and the youth. These risks include exposure to internet scams conducted by fraudsters, exploitation by unscrupulous individuals and exposure to adult nature content.

It is therefore crucial for parents to remain vigilant, and protect their children against the risks encountered in the cyberspace. Thanks to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for focusing on the subject of protecting the children against the risk found in the cyberspace. Governments should also impose hefty penalties to individuals found committing crimes on the internet. This will ensure indecent material doesn’t reach children and make it difficult for fraudsters to conduct their business online. Parents must also take serious steps to monitor what their children are surfing in the internet. But still some individuals are making millions of dollars legitimately online, taking advantage of the global reach by offering their products and services. (See my products and services)

The 5 Types Of Web Hosting – Part Ii

The 5 Types Of Web Hosting – Part Ii

This is the second part of the article on the 5 types of Web Hosting

VPS Hosting

VPS stands for virtual private server and is considered as a virtual dedicated server. It came about because some webmasters complained dedicated servers are too expensive and shared hosting are too low end. So VPS hosting is a mid-range solution for webmasters who demand dedicated server performance and cheaper web hosting cost. Typically for VPS, it costs between thirty to a few hundred dollars per month. You can also host as many websites as you like for each VPS.

The difference between VPS and dedicated server is that for dedicated server, you are fully in control of the whole server, whereas in VPS, a server will contain several virtual private servers. Due to virtual server technology, each VPS is totally isolated from other VPS on the same server. So if one VPS were to crash, it will not affect the rest.
Server resources such as memory and CPU is not shared among all VPS but rather divided so each VPS will have its own share of CPU and memory. Typically, each VPS account will have 128MB memory and 1 CPU plus the allocated disk space and bandwidth.

Web Hosting Maintenance

One thing I will like to touch on for VPS and lately on dedicated server is that you need to be technically proficient in administering servers. Managing a reseller or shared web hosting is a lot easier. For VPS and dedicated, at the very least, you need to know basic Linux commands and know how to allocate disk space and install programs such as webstats, cpanel etc. You also probably need to routinely patch your VPS or dedicated server with the latest version from time to time.

If you are not technically proficient in handling a VPS or dedicated server, another option is to go for a managed VPS. The web hosting company will setup and patch your VPS from time to time and you can tell them to install any applications you need to run your websites. I’m currently using a managed VPS which saves me the hassle of maintaining it and having more time to manage my websites.

Dedicated Web Hosting

The most expensive web hosting is dedicated web hosting. As the name suggest, you are in control of the server including all server resources and bandwidth. There are very little restrictions in what you can do. Typically, it cost a couple of hundred dollars per month.

If you are running a large corporate website or running a large number of websites requiring huge amount of disk space, server memory and bandwidth, then a dedicated server would be suitable. Some webmasters also get a dedicated server to start reselling web hosting plans.

But as people needs better and better, the camcorder got improved. The bulky video tapes got disappeared instead they were replaced by smaller tapes and then later they got tape-less and solid state flash memory cards aka magnetic sticks took the place as storage device. Some of the camcorders also use hard disk drives as storage options so that one can record large amount of videos without constantly emptying the card into some other device every now and then. n.

Not only the tapes got removed from this gadgets, its size also got reduced from a size of a lamppost to a size of a palm. The initial versions of camcorders which were used to broadcast the sports events or which were used to record of functions were very bulky. Then they even got smaller with tapes and were to be carried on shoulders with a power cable always following. But then came the generation of camcorders which were just sizes of little bigger than a size of a palm. They could be held in hand and used comfortably. And how could we forget the quality of videos. Video tapes faced lot of difficulties as quality was concerned. But when these latest camcorders entered into the market they recorded videos in HD. How Your Web Hosting Package Affects The Accessibility Of Your Website

How Your Web Hosting Package Affects The Accessibility Of Your Website

Deep in the heart of an office complex there lies a room that may be filled with floor to ceiling server cages that house multiple web-based servers. In the back of a storefront you may likely find servers working to keep websites operational.

A web host is simply a leasing agent for space on an existing server to allow your business website to be accessible by millions of Internet customers. The use of a web hosting service is similar to leasing a storefront as a showroom – it just costs less.

However, unlike a typical building lease option, a web host can provide a variety of features that you can customize based on the needs of your online business. For instance, you might need the capability of providing File Transfer Protocol (FTP) to business associates to access company data or new manufacturing specs. You might also need other data management protocols.

Most ecommerce websites will also need a shopping cart with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), database support and other similar features. Web hosting may not always be a ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution. You should determine what your needs will be in a web hosting solution and seek to find a solution that bundles the most options for the most reasonable price.

Interestingly, many of the sites that provide web design also make web hosting a part of the package. There may be many reasons this is so, but the predominant reason may be the access to the site information through a known or existing server. However, it is possible to work with a web hosting solution to allow the development of a site that is personally built by you. These web-hosting solutions allow the use of an extensive selection of features that can be customized through template rich designs and implemented in less time than other web development options.

You also want to find a web hosting service that can guarantee the greatest amount of uptime. Because the Internet has grown so fast you may also find web-hosting solutions that have no track record, so be careful about selecting a company that has not had ample time to prove their capabilities in maintaining quality service.

Leasing a portal to the web through a web-hosting service is one of the most cost effective ways to unleash your entrepreneurial spirit through a business startup, but you may be best served in looking through a variety of options before settling on a service that will help determine your accessibility on the web.

Getting Noise Free Server Rack Made Easy

Getting Noise Free Server Rack Made Easy

The server rack has emerged as an important component in any office setup- be it small or big. But sometimes it may become a nuisance, because of the high noise quotient especially if you have to make client phone calls etc. from a server room.

Here are some tips that can help you reduce noise without compromising on the quality or performance of your rack server.

See, if you can reduce the number of cooling fans in your server rack to get the best performance as well as reduce noise to a great extend for example if you have four fans, it is okay to have two instead.

Putting some sound absorbing foam on or around the server area is a good option, if you have large surfaces so as to limit reflective surfaces, etc, and dampen the sound. Be sure to allow for proper airflow when doing this.

Though it is true that server racks were never silent, today you can find varieties with temperature regulated fans for less noise in your office IT setup.

If you cannot do anything in the server rack, a simple solution can accomplished by getting a free standing sound absorbing office partition and place between your area and the server rack. However, it is critical that you do not block the airflow or this could cause your servers to overheat.

Having a rack that is open at the back can help you in getting the air flow out without disturbing the flow. You may be able to do away with the fans thus reducing noise pollution to a great extend.

You can install an air controller in your server room so that you can reduce the number of cooling fans from your server rack. Trying to cool a server rack using fans in room temperature would obviously result in noise pollution.

Try all these different tips to get reduced noise in your server rack and enjoy the difference.

Glass Fiber Plays An Essential Role In Science And Industry.

Glass Fiber Plays An Essential Role In Science And Industry.

Glass Fiber Optics

A glass is an non-crystalline solid material. Glass plays an essential role in science and industry. The optical and physical properties of glass make it suitable for applications such as flat glass, container glass, optics and optoelectronics material, laboratory equipment, thermal insulator (glass wool), reinforcement fiber (glass-reinforced plastic, glass fiber reinforced concrete), and art. Glasses are typically brittle, and often optically transparent. Glass is commonly used for windows, bottles, or eyewear and examples of glassy materials include soda-lime glass, borosilicate glass, acrylic glass, sugar glass, Muscovy-glass, or aluminium oxynitride.

Strictly speaking, a glass is defined as an inorganic product of fusion which has been cooled through its glass transition to the solid state without crystallizing. Many glasses contain silica as their main component and glass former. Commonly, glass science and physics deal only with inorganic amorphous solids, while plastics and similar organics are covered by polymer science, biology and further scientific disciplines.

Glass fibre : glass fibres thread made from glass. It is made by forcing molten glass through a kind of sieve, thereby spinning it into threads. Glass fibres is strong, durable, and impervious to many caustics and to extreme temperatures. For those qualities, fabrics woven from the glass threads are widely used for industrial purposes. Glass fibres fabrics can also be made to resemble silks and cotton and are used for curtains and drapery. A wide variety of materials are made by combining glass fibres with plastic.

Glass ingredients

Pure silica (SiO2) has a “glass melting point” at a viscosity of 10 Pascal Second (100 P) of over 2300 C(4200 F). While pure silica can be made into glass for special applications (see fused quartz), other substances are added to common glass to simplify processing. One is sodium carbonate (Na2CO3), which lowers the melting point to about 1500 C (2700 F) in soda-lime glass; “soda” refers to the original source of sodium carbonate in the soda ash obtained from certain plants. However, the soda makes the glass water soluble, which is usually undesirable, so lime (calcium oxide (CaO), generally obtained from limestone), some magnesium oxide (MgO) and aluminium oxide (Al2O3) are added to provide for a better chemical durability. The resulting glass contains about 70 to 74% silica by weight and is called a soda-lime glass. Soda-lime glasses account for about 90% of manufactured glass.

Two other common glass ingredients are calumite (an iron industry by-product) and “cullet” (recycled glass). The recycled glass saves on raw materials and energy. However, impurities in the cullet can lead to product and equipment failure.

Glassmaking in the laboratory

New chemical glass compositions or new treatment techniques can be initially investigated in small-scale laboratory experiments. The raw materials for laboratory-scale glass melts are often different from those used in mass production because the cost factor has a low priority. In the laboratory mostly pure chemicals are used. Care must be taken that the raw materials have not reacted with moisture or other chemicals in the environment.
